Christmas Ornament - Turtle Doves

I made a few of these two-sided turtledoves for some swaps and a message board challenge recently. I used white velvet-folcked card-stock for one side and the other is cut from gold-colored card-stock which I then coated with a thick layer of gold glitter !  Added a red ribbon after making an eyelet hole at the top. These are really pretty on the tree !  I cut them at 5 inches from the Joys of the Season cartridge. They are glued to a plain chip-board layer in the center for sturdiness ... I also added some jewled holly "berries" and "leaves" to the white side and a little bit of gold glitter stickles to accent the wings.

In order to cut the birds from "flocked" paper, I found it was best to use a mat that I have used a few times, so it is not "super sticky", then I turn the velvet side DOWN on it. I use a new blade (regular type) and set the pressure to MAX and turn the blade holder all the way to "6" (highest # setting). Then I usually have no problems with cutting the velvet paper. I use this setting for lightweight chipboard too (like the kind from a cereal box) , although I have found you need the DEEP CUT blade & housing for the thicker Grunge board or cardboard items.
